Night Out In Falmouth

Met up with Pete McCormick and some of his buddies at a pub called The Chain Locker. Disturbing name, but nice pub right on the waterfront with an outdoor patio. Closest thing we have to the Lower Deck here, minus the music. Live music isn't a big thing here, surprisingly enough. How can you have a pub without music? Well here, it's very rare to have music. Disappointing! However, it is the Sea Shanty Festival in Falmouth so there was a bit of singing and the outdoor patio was packed. The festival helps to raise money for the Royal National Lifeboat Institute (RNLI). The RNLI is a charity that provides a 24 hour life saving service around the UK and Republic of Ireland.

Pete is a Brit who just came back to Culdrose last year after 2.5 years in Shearwater. He and Keith knew each other from work and I met him one night at the mess just before he left Canada. He was celebrating his 36th birthday so several of his friends were out as well. Another friend, being Edward who had also spent 2 years in Shearwater several years back. It was great to have people to talk to about the good times at the Deck, the Triangle, and just Halifax and Canada in general. Edward had even been to Ingonish during his posting! After the pub we went to a very small bar called Rumors. I swear this was someone's basement. Very odd. Not a place I'm in a rush to get back to.

Had a great night meeting more people and laughing with Pete as he's such a hoot.
